I read some replies that say that there isnt a difference or there is no such thing as a white or black name and in reality there is a difference. In my opinion if people saw a name like Keisha or LaShawnda they would automatically think that she is black because of her name. Seriously how many white girls do u know named Keisha or LaShawnda or any thing like that. There arent many if any at all. Also there are white girl names some of which some black girls do have. Tiffany, Ashley, Amanda, Samantha, and Brittany were some names that probably at one time were known as white girls names. Today I would consider Mary Ann, Cindy, Elizabeth, and Emily white girl names even though some black girls do have these names because when I first hear or first see them I automatically think that they are white. It may be stereotypical but a lot of people who think that way. So, basically what I am saying is there is a such thing as a black girl and a white girl name.

Ok, so I'm Norwegian/German, my husband is half black, half hispanic. We have some names picked out for our children (when we start having them). Maybe you can get some ideas from these suggestions.

Tahirah (Tah-her-ray) and I like Tahirah Monet together
Monet
Tajia (Tah-ja)
Zantanna
Dessa
Rose
Aysha (I think this is Indian, I haven't had time to look it up again) Isha?

Boys
Taven (kind of like Raven)
Zephyr (means the west wind in Greek, very strong, and can be used for a girls name also, Zephyra)
Zayden (like Jayden but with a Z)
Quddus (ka-doos)

If anyone has any suggestions for A names that are unique and strong for boys or girls, let me know!

Abbe. why can i come on here and say i want a name either french or italian but cant say i want a name that is black? I think that is silly... everyone knows there is a difference and its not racism.. just reality.

There are many ethnicities that are "black", just as there are many ethnicities that are "white". Therefore, "black" and "white" are not very specific and alluding to them connotes racism. I agree with Abbe - why would anyone want to segregate their child anyway?

If someone is Jamaican, and they wanted to honor that in a name, they should have sought suggestions about Jamaican names. "Black" could mean anything and as such, it becomes a stereotype.

I agree with Feb.

"Black" is not a nationality, it's a matter of pigment.
