what about Akinyi - it is a Luo tribal name (east africa ) which means a girl born in the morning. A girl born in the night would be Atieno, during the day Achieng (ah. Chi. eng- to pronounce),

or Afua (pronounced ah. fee. ah) which is Jamaican.

or how about Baraka which means luck or blessing in Swahili,

or some good Muslim or arabic names like Salimah, Nassim, Rehema or Laila

I lived in Africa for a couple of years and those are some of the names there (there were also some monica lewinskys and saddam husseins)

I just wanted to say that The name Takiyah is an old Arabic name,so is Aisha. I hate when people make it sound as if its a ghetto name.

GHETTO?? The name is said just as it is written...if it satisfies you inform us how it is pronounced and we will greatly take note. Other than that..there is no such thing as a ghetto name..its called being UNIQUE..if you have a problem with it then OH WELL.

No harm but that was just ignorant. The girl is asking for advice..She is not trying to offend anyone.. If any of you had any kind of common sense you would see she's not trying to be offensive...If you get offended just don't respond cause all it does is spark confrontations.

Mindy...

This post attracted a lot of people who were goofing around, don't let yourself get too upset. I know a lot of the posts were not so intelligent... but the thread itself isn't so bright..

seeing this makes me think of my niece. My dad is a racist [happy faced clown]. My niece is white as white. Blonde hair, blue eyed... my sister named her Nikya Mai. My dad thought it sounded black, but I didn't think that it was.....

by the way, I'm not in anyway racist... my father is refusing to walk me down the aisle next year at my wedding because my black friends and mom's boyfriend who is black will be there.... his frickin loss!!!
When I have a child I'm going to teach them to love and know people for who they are on the inside. As long as someone has a good heart, they are worth loving....... no matter what color or sexual orientation they are...
