I know a little girl who's father is black (from South Africa) and who's mother is Irish. They gave her the South African last name of Zola. I think it is beautiful and strong. It's also easy to say which is a plus if the last name is complicated.

I think the person who requested the name ideas was very clear about what she wants. She doesn't put down 'white' names. She just wants a strong, beautiful name that would identify the child as African American.

When I request Swedish names, I'm not 'dissing' names of other nationalities.

The name Zola is soo pretty! Very Happy

I suggest typing in AFRICAN AMERICAN orgin in the search bar, my sons name TYRELL, is of african american orgin meaning THUNDER, other names depending on the day of birth could be traditional african names, my sons African name in ASHANTI (Ghana) Is Kujo (ku joe) thats just my 2 cents worth. I understand what you mean though by saying "white" names, traditional "irish. french, etc...." IE. Erin, Micheal, Christoper, etc....

I am 100 percent Jamaican and my name is Shinsaku Yoshita. I would recommend that for any strong black girl.

Charmeen Nichelle
(it was the name of my best friend who passed away and she was a strong black woman)
and when I was pregnant with my son I wanted him to be Dacia Nichelle (of course if he had been a girl) and everyone told me it was a "black" name

Something to keep in mind is the spelling and how others would pronounce the name. I am Asian and had a very hard time in school because no one could pronounce my name. What's worse is many people don't even try. Though I wanted to, I never changed my name. I didn't want to insult my parents. But it still irks me when my name is chopped up. Keep the child in mind. You don't want the child to end up changing her name because of that. Many of the names suggested so far are very beautiful. Good luck!
