Word choice is everything!

Still, I think that from Vitamins' example of "Tiffany" that we know that she doesn't want any names along the lines of : Brittney, Jessica, Amy, Amanda, Ashley etc - the uber-trendy stuff of the last 5-10 years.

If you want something "non-white"(whatever that means), make a shortlist of actual African, Jamaican, whatever else you like names and then choose.

Abbe. why can i come on here and say i want a name either french or italian but cant say i want a name that is black? I think that is silly... everyone knows there is a difference and its not racism.. just reality.

Babymomma: I think that you are missing the point completely.. There aren't names that are "BLACK" or "WHITE" ...if you notice, names belong to everyone and your request of a black name can be considered offensive.

I think references to race in naming are particularly disturbing. Ethnic heritage and the like is fine, but labeling it white and black is silly to me. It just antagonizes it all....

There are no baby names that are Black or White...... But they do have African, Jamaican, Indian, Spanish, French, Irish, Italian, etc... too many to name..... Very Happy

I'd suggest you do an advanced search on this site. Fill in "african" at origin of the name, above pick "girls name" and "suitable for both". you get about 10+ pages with all kinds of african names. Maybe you can find one there.

Next time when you ask a question, plz read it yourself so you can see that this one was out of the blue.

What does it matter if it's a black name or a white name. What is a black name or a white name? A name is name. What does it matter if it's a black name or white name (whatever that is) Rolling Eyes ? As long as the baby is healthy It doesn't matter. I'm Trinidadian and my name is probably a white name. I don't care. It's my name and I like it. And I also don't think Tiffani is a bad name. So don't care about skin color that matches the name. A name is a name. But since you ask I think T'shai would be a nice name.

i love my kids amanda, alexa, alyssa, adriana, and adam Very Happy

[b]People, calm down. It is not that serious. I am an african american woman and can relate to what Tiffani is saying. Now then, was the wording of her question inappropriate, of course, but I don't think she meant to be offensive in any way. A better way to rephrase would have been to say that she was not looking for something common or something that you hear everyday. With that being said, let's all face reality, there are an overabundance of people that name their children with made up names with off the wall spellings, no meaning, and over-imagination. Whether they are black or white. Give your child a name that envokes pride, something they can hold their head up to, something that fits them, not something that will get them held back for in school because they still can't spell their name.

How about Isis (or Izis). She was an Egyptian goddess, the most powerful of all.
