What the hell is a "white" name? Anything without an apostrophe?

I can see this turning horrifically racist, really fast. Oh wait, it already has. Too late. Rolling Eyes

I think references to race in naming are particularly disturbing. Ethnic heritage and the like is fine, but labeling it white and black is silly to me. It just antagonizes it all....

I dont think anyone was trying to be racist, it was a bad question to begin with. I dont think that the color of the skin matters as to what you name your child. I am all about heritage and culture and if that is what the person was going for than that is what they should have asked. The whole "white name." threw me for a loop!

Agreed, it was not a great question. This is the post I take issue with:

Whether Guest's intentions were racially motivated is not known. However, I think that this post was clearly meant as a mockery of names that sound "traditionally black." I don't want to make this a whole issue, I just think that this post was inappropriate.

I didnt mean to offend anyone, and certainly didnt mean to attack anyone in a racist way. When I made the comment to Abbe, I knew she would be full of comments, I was anticipating her replys. When giving the names, I was serious. I have friends with those names, I changed the spelling a little (kinda going on the Abbe comments about apostrophes)..but anyway....MY DEEPEST APOLOGIES TO ANYONE I MAY HAVE OFFENDED! Crying or Very sad

Gosh, I don't know what to say to that. I was being sincere with my first (and second) post, in that I don't understand why certain people perpetuate the things that they claim to be bothered by (such as racial discrimination) by wanting to segregate themselves. I hope I make sense because I'm not out to offend.

I think it's "ghetto" to name your children something with apostrophes, and that's really what I was implying. I'm not saying that black people are ghetto either, before anyone goes there.

Basically, I just don't think that it's healthy to not want a "white" name. You're just perpetuating your own stereotype there.
