Hi- my husband I have a baby due in April and we are undecided about boys' names (Girl will be Josephine Colette Theodora) We would like something simpler for a boy's name, not new age, but somewhat unusual. Lately we really like Darcy Jakob (last name is Tilson De Groote). The other boy names we have been discussing....

Rory
Ezekiel
Owen
Theodore
Zane
Liam
Aidan
Whit
Oren
Nate
Gabriel (too common?)

What combinations sound good? Is Darcy too much of a girl's name? Thanks in advance for your Help!!! Wink

I also wanted to add our most unusual name that all of our friends and family hate, but we love:

Obediah

Anyone out there like this name?

Congratulations!

I like Darcy on a boy very much, I like the idea of Darcy Theodore, I think that sounds really nice. By the way, I love the name you had picked for a girl!

I'm glad someone likes Darcy! Darcy Theodore is a very nice suggestion. Thanks!
My only worries with Liam, Aidan and Gabriel is that they are way too commmon! I don't like spelling variations, as I would like a name that most people would know how to spell, but is still distinct.
Thanks!

My favorites are Zane, Theodore, and Ezekiel (my third fav boys name). Darcy though orginally a boys name is too much a girls name in my mind now. A lot to do with a friend I had in highschool with this name, and the receptionist at my drs office and the dentist. When using names that are "gender neutral" you should think about down the road. Letters addressed to your son as Ms Tilson De Groote, or being put in the wrong gym class or wrong dorm room.

Is Obediah really that bad? Any other comments? I love this name and see nothing wrong with it to make it embarrassing or cruel, but people seem to have a negative reaction, but is this only because they haven't heard it before? I would love more input on this name. We also really like Rory. Any thoughts on this one?

Rory - OK. Reminds me of 'roar'.
Ezekiel - Reminds me of the word 'freak'. I think it's the sound.
Owen - Sounds like 'owing', I really dislike it.
Theodore - Love it, can't go wrong.
Zane - Sounds like 'sane', and in turn, 'insane'.
Liam - Yawn.
Aidan - Love, after an author I like, but it seems to have become popular very suddenly.
Whit - What?
Oren - Reminds me of 'oreo' or someone trying to say 'orange'.
Nate - Love.
Gabriel - Think I'd laugh if I ever met someone actually called this.
Obediah - Not one I particularly like but in general I am a fan of obscure Biblical names. I think dislike is just an automatic reaction to the unusual - use it if you love it.
