|
|
I recently posted here about Rosemary and Philomena. I love them both and would like to use them, but my other two favorites are Lucy and Jane, so I'd like to see some other long or old-fashioned names that you love if you have time to jot them down.
Also, how do you feel about Lucinda? I wish I loved it because I'd use it as a full name for Lucy if I did! Can you convince me to love it?
Thank you so much!
P. S. I would really prefer to have the names of saints, if you have them! Also, I like double-names like Margaret Mary or Anna Maria!

What wonderful responses! Thank you so much!
I know there is Lucille and Lucia for NN Lucy, but the different pronunciations of Lucia (loo-see-uh / loo-chee-uh) confuse me since I always think of the both, and I've never like Lucille because it makes me think of Lucille Ball. I like HER a lot, but as a name it just doesn't seem beautiful, soft, and exquisite to me!
Jensara, I LOVE Mehetabel, too! I've loved it since I read "Hitty: Her First Hundred Years" by Rachel FIeld. Although her NN was HItty, her full name was Mehetabel. I don't think I could use it because of the complicated spelling and pronunciation though!

Lucy has been my favourite name for as long as I can remember, and she has developed into the classy and mysterious (as well as less popular) Lucinda. She is beautiful, has a range of nicknames including Lucy, and would suit a number of different personalities.
Here are all the other Lucy names I have on my own list, maybe you can find something you like?
Lucasia
Lucasta
Lucelia
Lucélia
Lucia
Luciana
Lucine
Lucinthe
Lucretia
You could also consider something like Anna-Lucia or, possibly, Anna-Lucine. You may even like Lucy-Jane. You mentioned liking double first names.
Philomena is delightful, I truly love her. Rosemary, I'm not so keen on, I don't know why. Here are some other Rose names that may take your fancy:
Rosa
Rosalba
Rosalind
Rosamond/Rosamonde/Rosamund/Rosamunde
Rosetta
Rosmargaret
Primrose
Theorosa
Rose also works really well as the second part of a double first name, eg/ Anna-Rose, Mary-Rose, Amy-Rose.
Finally, here are some other names you may like, I've stuck with the long, old-fashioned theme. Sorry for any repeats:
Adamina
Adelaide
Annevieve
Catharina
Cecelia/Cecilia
Christabel/Christabelle
Christiana
Clementine
Cordelia
Cressida
Eleanora
Emmeline
Estella
Genevieve
Georgiana
Henrietta
Isadora
Jacomina
Josephine
Leonora
Leora
Liliana
Matilda
Mehetabel
Mirabel/Mirabelle
Ottilie
Ottoline
Susannah
Tabitha
Theodora
Thomasina
Victoria
Wilhelmina
I hope I was of some help! If you'd like to see my full list, or if you want me to work on any more double name ideas, just PM me!

Thanks!
Esmeralda: I'm hoping I'll start loving Lucinda on its own as well as its NN Lucy. I already love Lucy, but for some reason I can't up to ANY of the other long names! Thank you very much for posting those alternatives anyway!
I'd be happy to see your full list (I'm always looking for new names) but I don't want you to go to any particular trouble since I'm unfortunately extremely picky about what names I'd actually give a daughter. I like many, many names for characters but very few for real children!
So far from all your lists, I now have
Philomena (NN Mena / Mina), Rosemary (NN Rosie / Rosy), and possibly...
Lucinda (NN Lucy)
Beatrix (NN Bee / Trixie)
Emmeline (NN Emmy or ? - My mother's name is Emily!)
Not to mention my old love, Jane.
Also, I just thought of Dulcinea NN Dulcie! I've always love this name! WDYT?
