Okay..I've saw people's advice on how you should name a baby according to your ethnicity, religion, etc, etc..I'm quite sure there will be some people on here that don't agree, or believe in 'mixing races', but please don't give me any comments on how you think it's wrong..My opinion stands firm, as your's probably does also. I'm just wondering what names people would suggest, or how others think one should go about choosing a name for a bi-racial child! For suggestions, it doesn't really matter to me where the name originated from, or what ethnicity it comes from. I just look at the name, say it, judge whether I like it by that.
Anyway..I'm caucasian (Brandy Alina), and the father of my baby girl (due to be here Aug. 10!) is african-american, (TimothyDewayne)..yes, his name is Tim..his mother decided that in the future when he was old enough to fill out job applications, etc. that it would look better if the person calling could pronounce his name.
The name I have had in mind is Amara..(uh-MAR-uh) I just like the way it looks and sounds even though it's from Greek origin and neither of us are Greek. It means "everlasting; eternal". I like names that are not common, but not far-out there and hard to pronounce, either. For possible middle names..AmaraAlina after me, but too many a's..Amara Shalyn (SHAY-lyn..and no, not being lazy by adding 'lyn', I just like it), or AmaraBrianne..Tim suggested Talia (Tuh-LI-uh) Nicole..Talia is okay, but I don't like Nicole..(personal reasons) lol..anyway..anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to hear 'em

I think it depends on the individual name, and Amara works OK - as a fan of the classical world I'm happy to nick Greek names from them! For middle names - I'm not into naming your kids after yourself, it seems rather self-centred. Shalyn - just another trendy -lyn name to me. Brianne is OK but I prefer Brianna (I think I just dislike Anne names, Anna is prettier).
I would pronounce Talia TAR-lee-ah - it reminds me of talons. Nicole is boring. I know that names like Nicole, Marie and Elizabeth 'go' with most first names because of their stress but they're just so unoriginal.

In my first post when I mentioned the thing about 'mixing races', I just added that in because I didn't want the topic to change into racial issues, or something like that.
I like Brielle, but ppl I've told that name thought I was saying 'braille'.
I don't think naming your child after you is self-centered..well I know I wouldn't be meaning it like that anyway..I think it's meaningful, and let's the child know how important they are to you.
TAR-lee-ah reminds me of 'leotard'..I don't really see how Tuh-LEE-uh (spelled the pronounciation wrong first time) would remind you of 'TA-luns'..maybe we're pronouncing it different, dunno.
I like Brianna better than Brianne, too, but didn't think it sounded as good with Amara since it ends with the 'uh' sound also.
Nicole is rather unoriginal..pretty name, but too common for me.
Anyway..Thanks for taking the time to reply and give suggestions.
Personally, I don't think it will matter toomuch what you name your baby. Racially mixed children (black & white) are the most beautiful children! I mean that from my heart. I work with a girl who is white, her hubby is a very handsome balck man and their two children (son and daughter) are just grogeous!

Good Luck!
Children all are gorgeous wether they are black, white, yellow or orange. But why is it so important to have a really original name? (Not that I like Nicole) I think it's nice to have a name with a meaning and when you make up a name you don't have that. And I think it's cool to be named after the most beautiful woman ever lived (like Helena) or after an african tribe (like Shante)
*giggle* I certainly have seen some ugly kids, so I wouldn't go as far as the poster above me, but I too do not see the point of reasoning for wanting an ethnic name... Naming according to culture is good in my opinion, but some names bring instant ethnic attention that isn't necessary. Where I live and work, certain names come across my desk that are transparent as to the ethnicity of our client. That is all good and fine, I suppose, but I am not a fan of the practice.
Amara is fine... Shalyn I don't like... nor Talia (no R in Talia, BTW)... and I don't care for Nicole... I find it boring. But otherwise, I think you're on the right track.
