What are some thoughts? My initial thought was that I liked it (husband really likes it) but the more I think it, it sounds a bit old sounding, or too close to Bess, (?) which I'm not too fond of. Hormones or reality?

It is rather old-fashioned; it reminds me of Tess of the d'Urbervilles (great book). Tess seems like a nickname to me but I don't know if Tessa is considered a 'full' name.

I agree with jayday, it's beautiful. I think Tessa could be a full name, but I like Tess better.

when we choose a name for a child, we consider 4 things:

1. does it sound right?
2. will it complement his/her surname?
3. is there a profound meaning to the name?
4. do we know of other people with that name, and how are they as individuals?

from the four criteria, tess/tessa sounds nice, very classy.

i think it will go well with any surname...but i like tessa better, more exotic, more unusual ---- ergo, more unique.

i know of 2 people with those names, and they're both beautiful, gentle-spoken and kind.

i think even if i don't check the meaning of that name, it will be the same --- beautiful and kind.

Tessa is Italian and it means countess. I saw it in a book recently and it struck me as a name that sounded very classy. I think it is a great name!

I really like the 4 criteria.

1. I think it sounds pleasant
2. Last name is Leon (pr. Layown)
3. Means Countess
4. Know no one else with the name, only read a book with the character name.

We have had almost 7 months to figure it out and still am not sure, but it is the one name that we both immediatly went, "oh, thats nice". So, as of now, its #1 on the list. Then again, we have 2 months left, God knows what will happen then!
I will show him these posts though, they are pretty positive so far.
Thanks again

Hey...

I don't really like the name so much. It's cute but my aunt owns a dog that's name is Tess and we call her Tessa or Tessie... Confused
